Released in 1985, the movie Explorers, staring young Ethan Hawke (Ben Crandall), Jason Preston (Darren Woods) and River Phoenix (Wolfgang Müller), proved that computers will be mobile and will be explorers’ faithful sidekicks. True, the production took some liberties with reality. Indeed, although the Apple 2c was indeed transportable, there is no way it could be – alongside with a CRT – be powered in the field. And no, they didn’t carry a car battery with them. Joke aside, it was cool to catch these computers in a kid’s movie from the 80s.
