I was shuffling stuff around this afternoon when I found the semeuse de Roty of my regiment, the 121st transportation regiment from the 1st logistic brigade based in Linas-Montlhery France. Our motto was “Transporte et combat”. These days, as you would expect, I selectively and happily forget the least pleasant times but am vividly remembering the friends, our youth and a strong feeling of belonging and contributing to something bigger than ourselves. When the French army was conscript, it had the virtue of mixing all layers of society. Something I believe we are missing these days, so we could learn to live together instead of co-existing side-by-side. Note: pictures (from the web) shows a few of the vehicles used by the regiment circa 2015.
