In Elementary (S7:E5 – Into the Woods, directed by Christine Moore), we can spot a few lines of C code when Lucy Liu (Watson) and Jonny Lee Miller (Holmes) are analyzing Matthew Yang’s workstation’s content during an investigation. The detectives are mentioning the download of the movie Sharknado from a peer-to-peer platform as the sole crime committed by Yang. Maybe…

But, did the production code commit plagiarism? Indeed, the code can be found on, in a file named splayer.c (theora_multithread_decode_pthread/examples). Not a crime, and kinda makes sense in the scope of the episode. But, why altering the code by changing the function names’ casing? It doesn’t add anything to the story or the visual identity. Mystery!
