A few days ago, the USGS released the first Unified Geologic Map of the Moon. Created with NASA, this lunar map, besides being beautiful, is foreseen as a tool for the Human return to the surface of our natural satellite. Makes sense! To me, though, it is a testimony of how science and human knowledge progresses—relentlessly building on top of the work of your predecessors, decades after decades. The data used to map the geology of the Moon is a combination of Apollo-era information and modern telescope and satellite telemetry. In these days of crisis and obscurantism at the highest levels, it is reassuring that there is always a point when the BS vanishes, and only facts and rational thinking remains. So, if you want to dream big, for your next hick, download the Moon’s geological map here.
